Photos from Royal Caribbean's private compound (and a few of the people who work there.) Ironically these were taken about two weeks before the devastating earthquake. There was a lot of debate over whether it was even ethical for cruise ships to keep docking here, but it was ultimately decided that the economic benefits they brought were worth it. Many of them also brought supplies.

Such a contrast between the luxury ship and the poor villages. Yet tourism and foreign dollars may be the best hope some of these islands ever have. One person who is lucky enough to get a job here may be supported two or more families. So take that cruise, take the local tours and buy a view local crafts while you are at it. A few dollars for us, may be a weeks living expense for some people!
